Apples are packed with nutrients to get your health in check.  A good source of antioxidants, vitamin C, and soluble fibre; 1 medium apple contains approximately 3 grams of soluble fibre to help reduce your cholesterol and manage blood sugars. Apples are also a good source of Quercetin, a phytochemical, also found  in green leafy vegetables, broccoli, green tea, and tomatoes. Quercetin has been shown to have some cancer fighting properties.  Apples top the environmental working groups dirty dozen list, for one of the highest pesticide residues and recommend choosing organic. Stroll the farmers market in early September and you’ll have a tons of delicious, crunchy locally varieties to choose from.

Another great place to learn, taste, and buy local apples is the annual UBC Apple Festival at the UBC botanical gardens .This is a family event for all ages, held October 18 & 19 from 11 am – 4 pm.
